ELIXIR Belgium Training meeting

This meeting brought together several members of universities and research centres to kick-off the activities of the “Training” platform of the Belgian ELIXIR node. The objectives of this meeting were to:

  • build a bioinformatics training network
  • get an overview of offered trainings and workshops
  • identify the major requirements of the different institutes
  • produce a basic framework for the initial development of joined trainings

Apart from our academic partners, Belgian research institutes active in life-sciences are also important stakeholders in ELIXIR Belgium. Members of these organisations generate and use data, thereby facing similar data challenges. With the ELIXIR Belgium Interest Group, we aim to bring together members of research institutes in order to exchange views, share best practices and promote collaborations.

ELIXIR Tools Platform F2F meeting

ELIXIR Belgium is hosting the ELIXIR Tools Platform F2F meeting in Ghent. The meeting covers the general Tools Platform member’s discussion for the new ELIXIR Scientific Program, the collaboration with the MyExperiment team around workflows and EOSC-life, and the strategic implementation study around containers. ELIXIR Innovation and SME forum: Data-Driven Innovation in Food, Nutrition and Microbiome

Microbiome, Food and Nutrition datasets have expanded rapidly in recent years, following advances in DNA sequencing and the rise of shotgun metagenomics and metabolomics. To help companies access and take advantage of this wealth of data, ELIXIR and ELIXIR Belgium organised a two-day ELIXIR Innovation and SME Forum on 9-10 October in Brussels, Belgium.

FAIRDOM meeting

FAIRDOM has been identified as a promising platform to capture data and metadata, and is also gaining considerable traction across ELIXIR Europe. By deploying FAIRDOM and providing guidance, Research Data Management (RDM) can be introduced as an integral part of any research project, enabling a “FAIR data by design” approach to replace the current ad hoc dissemination approach.

Connecting ESFRI and the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC)

Research Infrastructures (such as ESFRI’s) are characterized by the very significant data volumes they generate and handle but the research data landscape is still fragmented. The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) wants to address the current situation including the support of thematic clusters of Pan-European research infrastructures dedicated to the EOSC.

Advancing data stewardship: insights from environmental and life science research infrastructures

Open Science and Open Data initiatives are currently high on many agendas (e.g. EOSC, FOSB). The implementation of these initiatives rely heavily on the infrastructure and services present. As such, the European Research Infrastructures (ESFRIs) play a central role in this. Many of these infrastructures offer data platforms, tools and services. However, the handling of data in different domains comes with its specific challenges.

ELIXIR Belgium All Hands Meeting 2019

After the successful launch of ELIXIR Belgium in 2017, the first ELIXIR Belgium All Hands Meeting was held on 16 September 2019 in Brussels. The aim of the event was to bring together all stakeholders of ELIXIR Belgium, showcase achievements and plans for the future, as well as provide networking opportunities to meet the people involved.

Scientific Advisory Board meeting ELIXIR Belgium

The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) acts as a consultative body to provide recommendations to the Belgian ELIXIR Node on technical, organizational and strategic matters. During this first meeting, the applications of our Node Services Call 2019 were presented and discussed. Positively evaluated services will be part of the ELIXIR Belgium Service Delivery Plan.
