Connecting plant pangenomes to their function and existing literature with KnetMiner
Researchers from ELIXIR Belgium, in an effort led by colleagues from Rothamstead Research and ELIXIR-UK, have contributed to the integration of plant pangenome data to KnetMiner, a platform for knowledge-driven gene discovery in plant genomics.
The work links pangenome information generated within the PLAZA/FRINGE comparative genomics tool to KnetMiner - a discovery platform that by searching existing scientific literature and life science data, helps to unveil the link between complex genetic traits and biological properties.
The integration covers pangenome datasets for Arabidopsis, rice, tomato and barley, generated by the ELIXIR Belgium members at Ghent University and VIB. This data was integrated into KnetMiner and used to model as a knowledge graph. By combining genetic variation data with existing biological knowledge, researchers can more easily identify candidate genes and interpret complex traits relevant to crop improvement and biodiversity research in a searchable way.
The resulting resources are openly available through KnetMiner and support the broader goal of making plant pangenome data more accessible, interoperable and reusable within the life sciences community.
