I do research in computational biology for genomic medicine. Our bioinformatics team develops computational strategies to analyze and integrate large-scale, complex, heterogeneous biological and clinical data to (1) bring emerging diagnostic techniques (such as next-generation sequencing) quickly into routine clinical practice, (2) prioritize candidate disease genes and unravel molecular networks in genetic disease, and (3) suggest potential therapeutic strategies. Our methodological expertise is in probabilistic graphical models, kernel methods, and network analysis algorithms. Within the university, I also coordinate the SymBioSys Center for Computational Biology, which brings together computational biologists and geneticists across the university to tackle such goals in genetic disease and cancer.
