The ADReM Data Lab is a leading unit in the theoretical study, development, adaptation and application of solutions to interpret complex and large data sets. As founding unit of Biomina, the biomedical informatics Network Antwerpen, it has established an extensive portfolio of data mining, machine learning and pattern discovery solutions tailored to the extraction of insights from complex and heterogeneous biomedical data. Most of these solutions are based on frequent pattern discovery, association rule discovery and structure-based biomolecular interaction prediction techniques, dedicated to the interpretation of heterogeneous and complex biomolecular "omics" data (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, ...), and on the construction and utilization of (network) models of biological systems. Specific applications in proteomics and metabolomics include quality control, mass spectrometry anomaly mining and techniques for quantitative signal processing. Other applications are situated in host pathogen interactions and immunology, where data mining and machine learning methods are a key component of interaction modelling and are the basis of the reconstruction and study of biomolecular networks. Many of these applications resulted in implementations in collaboration with academic, hospital and industry partners, often in the areas of immunology, infectious diseases and personalized medicine.
